Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud Advocates Mutual Fraternity for Upholding Equality in Society: Insights from the ‘Hamara Samvidhan Hamara Samman’ Campaign
Jaipur, 09-03-2024: Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud emphasized the imperative of mutual fraternity in upholding equality within the country during his address at a state-level ‘Hamara Samvidhan Hamara Samman’ campaign in Bikaner. He underscored the vital role of mutual respect and cooperation in fostering societal progress, questioning how a nation can advance if its people are engaged in constant conflict.
According to Justice Chandrachud, the ethos of the Constitution dictates that individuals should hold esteem for one another. He stressed that human dignity occupies a paramount position in the vision of the Constitution’s framers, particularly highlighting the contributions of Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar in embedding principles of justice, liberty, equality, fraternity, and individual dignity within the constitutional framework.
The Chief Justice also shed light on ongoing efforts to enhance the efficacy of district courts, acknowledging them as the primary gateway to justice. He expressed a commitment to sensitizing these courts and modernizing their infrastructure to align with contemporary needs.
Technological advancements, as highlighted by the CJI, have played a pivotal role in enhancing access to legal services and spreading legal awareness. The Supreme Court, he noted, has leveraged technology to bolster its capacity, facilitating virtual hearings and enabling lawyers to argue cases remotely. Additionally, efforts are underway to translate judgments into regional languages, ensuring wider accessibility and comprehension.
Union Minister of State for Law, Arjun Ram Meghwal, also addressed the program, further underscoring the significance of upholding constitutional values and fostering a culture of mutual respect and cooperation within the country.
