CIC Asks CBSE to Revise Rules on Access to Board Exam Answer Sheets
Information Commission says students should not lose their right to seek revaluation after obtaining answer-sheet copies under RTI
NEW DELHI, Sept 7: The Central Information Commission (CIC) has recommended that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) amend its rules governing access to board examination answer sheets under the Right to Information Act.
The commission observed that a provision preventing students from seeking revaluation after obtaining copies of their evaluated answer sheets through the RTI route is inconsistent with the broader objective of transparency under the law.
The recommendation comes amid continuing concerns among students and parents over access to evaluated answer scripts and the mechanisms available for challenging marks awarded in board examinations.
The CIC has also asked the CBSE to charge photocopying fees in accordance with the applicable RTI rules rather than imposing a separate fee structure.
