CID Arrests BJP MLA Basavaraja and Advocate Ajit Over Ulsoor Lake Killing at Bengaluru Airport
Seven months after the killing of rowdy-sheeter Biklu Shiva, CID cites real estate rivalry as primary motive.
Bengaluru, Feb 13 : Nearly seven months after 40 year old rowdy sheeter Biklu Shiva was hacked to death near Ulsoor Lake, the CID on Thursday arrested KR Pura BJP legislator BA Basavaraja and advocate Ajit in connection with the murder.
The arrests took place at Kempegowda International Airport around 6.30 pm as the two arrived from Ahmedabad. They were subsequently brought under tight security to the CID headquarters on Palace Road. A senior police officer said, “We will produce Basavaraja, accused No. 5, and Ajit, accused No. 20, in court tomorrow.”
Biklu Shiva was attacked by an armed gang on July 15, 2025. CID investigations indicate that business rivalry in the real estate sector was the primary motive behind the murder.
Following a complaint lodged by Shiva’s mother, police registered cases against several suspects, including Basavaraja, and invoked provisions of the Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act (KCOCA). Basavaraja had challenged the KCOCA charges in the High Court on August 12, which were later quashed on December 19. A vacation bench granted him interim anticipatory bail on December 26.
However, a bench recently rejected the anticipatory bail order, stating: “Interrogation of a powerful accused such as the petitioner, who is highly influential and armed with an order of anticipatory bail may not be as effective. The manner of probe must be left to the investigating authority, and the court cannot sit in judgment over the same.”
The CID continues to investigate the case, focusing on unraveling the network behind the attack and the alleged real estate rivalry that led to the killing.
