Civil society urges stronger anti-drug measures in J&K during meeting with Lieutenant Governor

SRINAGAR, October 5: A delegation from the Civil Society Forum Kashmir for Health, led by Shri Omar Shafi Trumboo, called on the Lieutenant Governor at Raj Bhavan today and discussed a series of crucial measures aimed at intensifying the fight against the growing menace of drug abuse in Jammu and Kashmir. During the meeting, the delegation presented a detailed set of recommendations focused on strengthening preventive strategies, enhancing rehabilitation infrastructure, and expanding public awareness initiatives. They emphasized the need for coordinated action between government agencies, civil society, healthcare professionals, and educational institutions to address the socio-economic and health dimensions of substance abuse.

The Lieutenant Governor assured the delegation that the administration is fully committed to eradicating the drug menace and will consider their suggestions for inclusion in ongoing anti-narcotics campaigns, rehabilitation policies, and community outreach programmes. He lauded the efforts of civil society in complementing government initiatives and called for sustained public participation to build a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.

In a separate meeting, a public delegation from Budgam district led by Shri Nazir Ahmad Khan, former DDC Chairman, also met the Lieutenant Governor and submitted a memorandum of demands highlighting a wide range of developmental issues concerning the district. The delegation raised concerns related to infrastructure development, road connectivity, healthcare facilities, education, and employment opportunities, urging the administration to expedite projects and allocate additional resources for the district’s socio-economic growth.

The Lieutenant Governor gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured them that the administration is committed to equitable development across all districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
