CM Stalin Launches TNUHDB Housing Projects Inauguration Covering 5,367 Tenements Worth Rs 840 Crore

Chennai: Chief Minister M K Stalin on Monday inaugurated 13 completed housing schemes under the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB), marking a major push in the state’s urban housing drive.

The TNUHDB housing projects inauguration covered 5,367 newly built and reconstructed tenements developed at a total cost of Rs 840.76 crore across Chennai and other districts.

In addition, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for 1,984 new housing units to be constructed at multiple locations, including Greams Road, with an estimated outlay of Rs 420.34 crore.

Reconstruction and New Developments

Of the projects opened on Monday, 4,035 tenements were reconstructed in the Thousand Lights, Mylapore and Saidapet Assembly constituencies at a cost of Rs 696.55 crore. Another 1,332 housing units were newly built in districts such as Coimbatore, Madurai and Tiruchirappalli, amounting to Rs 144.21 crore.

During the programme, housing allotment orders were handed over to beneficiaries, and tree plantation was carried out at the Kotturpuram project site. Officials stated that over the past five years, 209 housing projects comprising 74,126 tenements have been completed and opened to the public under the TNUHDB.

Other Infrastructure Projects

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin inaugurated civic projects worth Rs 123.35 crore undertaken by the Greater Chennai Corporation and the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA).

Among them was the redeveloped Tondiarpet bus depot, built at a cost of Rs 21.93 crore under the Vada Chennai Valarchi Thittam. The facility includes space for 15 buses, parking areas for four-wheelers and two-wheelers, and other amenities.

He also opened the upgraded Tondiarpet-1 bus depot constructed at Rs 33.82 crore, flagged off 100 new low-floor electric buses valued at Rs 170 crore, and laid the foundation for Phase-2 development to support charging infrastructure for 750 electric buses. Additional inaugurations included the revamped Chetpet Eco Park, a new playground in RK Nagar, and a middle school building in Mahalakshmi Nagar, Puzhal.
