Coastal Andhra on Alert as Cyclone Ditwah Poised to Trigger Heavy Rains for 6 Days
IMD issues advisories for fishermen as rain, winds and thunderstorms expected across northern and southern coastal districts
Andhra Pradesh, Nov 28 : Vizag Cyclone Warning Centre Officer Jagannath Kumar has issued a Cyclone Ditwah rainfall alert in Andhra Pradesh, warning that the system will intensify rain and wind conditions along the coastal belt over the next six days. The advisory urges fishermen to stay away from the sea as squally winds strengthen along the shoreline.
Kumar said northern and southern coastal districts will experience isolated to widespread rainfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning during various phases of the weather system’s progression.
Speaking to ANI on Thursday, he explained, “Under this system, light to moderate rainfall is likely over coastal districts. The spatial distribution of rainfall is likely to increase over the next six days, especially in north coastal Andhra Pradesh.”

Thunderstorms with lightning are expected over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema from Day 2 to Day 5. Winds of 35–45 kmph are likely along the south coast on Day 1, with intensification along the entire Andhra coast thereafter. Authorities have reiterated warnings for fishermen not to venture into the sea until conditions improve.

Separately, on Thursday, the India Meteorological Department reported that cold wave conditions may prevail in parts of Punjab. A western disturbance over central Pakistan is creating a cyclone-like situation in southwest Rajasthan, though no major changes are expected in the weather across northwest India. No significant rainfall or snowfall is forecast for the Himalayan region over the next week, except for light showers in Rajasthan over the next two days.
For southern India, IMD scientists said that due to a slight depression over the Bay of Bengal, rainfall is likely in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, with a red alert issued for November 28 and 29.
