Cold Wave Intensifies in Ladakh Snow Forecasted Over Zojila Axis From Dec 30

Cold Wave to Hit Ladakh: Snowfall Expected Over Zojila and High-Altitude Regions End of December

Srinagar, Dec 27: The Meteorological Centre has issued a detailed forecast for Ladakh, warning of a sharp drop in night temperatures and the likelihood of snowfall in high-altitude regions towards the end of December.

According to the outlook, Ladakh is expected to experience partly cloudy conditions on December 28, mostly cloudy skies later the same day, and partly cloudy weather on December 29. On December 30, skies are likely to remain mostly cloudy, with a 55–60% chance of light snowfall over the Zojila Pass–Drass axis and parts of the Siachen Glacier during the night.

The weather system is expected to intensify between December 31 and January 1, bringing cold and cloudy conditions across the region. Light to moderate snowfall is likely at scattered locations in Zojila, Kargil, Zanskar, and higher reaches of Leh district. Officials have also warned of heavy snowfall, with accumulation of up to 10 inches along the Zojila–Minamarg axis.

While no formal weather alert has been issued yet, authorities have cautioned that transportation over Zojila may face temporary disruptions during December 31 and January 1 due to snowfall and adverse road conditions. Travellers, transporters, and locals are advised to stay updated with the latest weather bulletins and plan their movements accordingly to ensure safety during this harsh winter spell.
