Cold Wave Tightens Grip on Kashmir Pahalgam Plunges to -4.3°C
Temperatures remain below freezing across most stations as cold conditions tighten grip over the Valley.
Srinagar, Dec 7: The Kashmir Valley continued to shiver under severe cold conditions as temperatures stayed below freezing across most stations last night, with Pahalgam emerging as the coldest location at -4.3°C.
According to data from Kashmir Weather, slight relief was observed in a few areas, including Srinagar, where the minimum temperature stood at -0.9°C still below freezing but milder compared to recent nights. Srinagar Airport, however, remained colder at -2.4°C.
In south Kashmir, Qazigund recorded -1.0°C, Awantipora -3.0°C, Pulwama -3.8°C, and Shopian -3.5°C.
In north Kashmir, Kupwara touched -0.8°C, Bandipora -0.9°C, and Baramulla -2.0°C, while Zethan Rafiabad dropped to -4.1°C, making it one of the coldest belts today.
Tourist hotspots also remained gripped by the winter chill, with Gulmarg at -1.6°C and Sonamarg at -0.9°C.
A few stations, including Kokernag (1.1°C), Kulgam (0.6°C), and Ganderbal (0.4°C), stayed above freezing, offering slight respite.
In the Jammu region, conditions were relatively milder: Jammu recorded 8.3°C, Katra 9.2°C, Batote 6.2°C, Bhaderwah 2.0°C, and Banihal 1.5°C. Udhampur logged 3.6°C, while Ramban and Doda settled at 4.9°C and 6.7°C respectively.
Meanwhile, Ladakh continued to freeze, with Leh dipping to -7.2°C, Kargil to -6.4°C, and Nubra Valley to -3.2°C.
Meteorologists said the cold wave is expected to persist, with temperatures likely to drop further in the coming nights.
