Corruption is a social, and economic plight. It is so pervading that even no corner seems left untouched of it. Its roots are widely spread and penetrated deep into the system. Perhaps this is the reason, despite all efforts by the Govts., it remains unabated. The harder the rules, the more the corruption. Where morality sinks, nothing swims.
Moral values have gone into descending order, not only corruption, several other vices and evils have been generated in society. It carries highly dangerous consequences and creates dissatisfaction among the masses. No country can progress, where it is practised
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said corruption is like a “termite” which makes the country hollow and all the people of the country have to work together to rid the nation of it as soon as possible. Further, he said, “It becomes very important that we give priority to our duties. Where there is a sense of duty, where the duty is supreme, and corruption cannot exist,”
Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau on daily basis receiving a score of complaints of corruption and action on the matter is also reported, which shows how corruption has deep-rooted and polluted the mindset of its citizens and how badly it affects the system of service delivery in the government departments, although the present LG administration have made continuous efforts to make the system more transparent by way of formulation of various policies and programmes including digitization of office records and its availably on the respective web portals and a free hand to ACB to ensure transparency in governance, prevent and investigate corruption cases and uphold citizen rights
Just imagine from this day forward, that, you, the ordinary citizens of Jammu and Kashmir State decide to deliberately cease cooperating with structural corruption and consciously stop participating in corrupt practices. This may cause the pyramid-like structure to be shaken at the top, paving the way for a social transformation process. Considering that conditions of corruption always support a climate of impunity and complicity where the rule of law is compromised, society will go through many transitions as corruption is dismantled. Corruption, after all is deeply embedded into the social-economic-political fibre.
Corruption is violence that absolutely strips human dignity, and erodes trust and the ability to form lasting relationships. Corruption is anti-life, the antithesis of development, and obstructs human and environmental endeavours. Corruption has the capacity to become systemic. Consequently, as it becomes a way of life, the norm, is very difficult to reverse. Public education, strategic planning and reframing the issues by asking all public and social institutions to look inward are required in order to effectively dismantle systemic corruption. This type of personal and collective will to act in concert can weaken and uproot corruption.
Given the history of Jammu and Kashmir State and the political culture that has evolved, using strategic nonviolent means of approaches from both the top and the bottom are required to dismantle systemic corruption. This calls for the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir to reflect deeply on their situation and have the courage to discontinue being subjects of history. This is like peeling an onion, one layer at a time. Each time a layer is removed and exposed, the more will be revealed below. Neither the individual nor the collective can do this at once, yet incrementally, over time the yoke of corruption we are all labouring beneath can be weakened, and eventually removed.
Therefore, Need to nip it at any stage, is of paramount necessity. Only streamlined systems of administration and cultivation of moral and social values can shorten its graph and emancipate the soil from its bad effects. Singapore’s model of effectiveness in combating corruption is attributed to a strong anti-corruption framework, which includes four major pillars: laws, adjudication, enforcement, and public administration, all of which are supported by political will and leadership. Continue efforts of LG administration will definitely yield better results in this regard, we may hope.
