Congress Expresses Pride in Armed Forces, Applauds Their Decisive Strikes on Terror Camps During ‘Operation Sindoor’

New Delhi, May 7: The Indian National Congress on Wednesday wholeheartedly praised the Indian Armed Forces for their bold, precise, and decisive military strikes against terror camps operating in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) under ‘Operation Sindoor’, reiterating its firm support to the forces and to all actions taken by the government in the interest of national security.

The statements were issued following an emergency meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), urgently convened by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in the aftermath of the airstrikes carried out in retaliation to the brutal Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 civilians lost their lives.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Kharge stated, “We are extremely proud of the Indian Armed Forces for their courageous and well-coordinated operations against terror camps located in Pakistan and PoK. Their unwavering determination and commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty deserve the highest praise. We salute their bravery, patriotism, and sacrifice.”

He added that the Congress Party has remained steadfast in standing shoulder to shoulder with the armed forces since the day of the Pahalgam attack and has backed every firm and necessary step taken to counter cross-border terrorism. “From the very beginning, we have extended our full support to the armed forces and the Government of India in the fight against terrorism that originates from across the border,” Kharge emphasized.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also voiced strong support, saying, “Our armed forces have once again demonstrated their extraordinary skill and courage. The Congress Working Committee held detailed discussions today, and I want to reiterate our complete support, love, and best wishes to our jawans. The entire Congress party stands united with our brave soldiers.”

Both Kharge and Rahul Gandhi will be representing the Congress party at the all-party meeting scheduled by the Government on Thursday, May 8, where national leaders will be formally briefed about Operation Sindoor.

In his remarks, Kharge reiterated India’s clear and uncompromising policy against terrorism emanating from Pakistan and PoK. “The Indian National Congress has always placed national interest above all. Our history is full of sacrifices made by our heroes in the service of this country’s unity and integrity,” he said.

He further stressed the importance of unity across political lines, noting that, “At such critical junctures, when the nation is faced with external threats, political divisions must give way to collective purpose. Unity at every level—political, institutional, and societal—is essential to safeguard India’s territorial integrity and democratic values.”

He also confirmed that the INDIA alliance partners are in agreement on supporting the armed forces and maintaining national solidarity in the face of terrorism.

The CWC meeting, held at the party headquarters on 24 Akbar Road, was attended by several senior leaders, including AICC Treasurer Ajay Maken, Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, General Secretaries K C Venugopal, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Mukul Wasnik, Jairam Ramesh, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Former Union Minister Anand Sharma, and Deputy Leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi.

Sources informed that the party was briefed on the scale and scope of Operation Sindoor, during which Indian Air Force jets carried out precision airstrikes on nine high-value terror targets including training camps, launch pads, and headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba—all while avoiding any escalation with Pakistan by not targeting military installations or breaching their airspace.

As per reports, a large number of militants were present at these locations during the attacks, and the mission, which commenced shortly after midnight, has been described as a strong deterrent message to terror networks operating across the border.
