Congress Manifesto Aimed at Strengthening National Fabric, Not Dividing : Says Farooq Abdullah
In Defence of Secularism: Farooq Abdullah Backs Congress Manifesto's Vision for a Strong India
Srinagar, 08-04-2024 : Farooq Abdullah, leader of the National Conference, addressed reporters, emphasizing the intent behind the Congress manifesto amidst Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s critique associating it with the Muslim League. Abdullah defended the manifesto, stating its aim is to strengthen the country and uphold its secular ethos, not to divide it. He rebuffed any insinuations suggesting otherwise, asserting that such notions only serve to further fracture the nation.
Modi had earlier criticized the Congress, alleging that its manifesto echoed the Muslim League’s ideology and displayed hostility towards national unity and Sanatan Dharma. The Congress, along with the National Conference, is part of the opposition INDIA bloc, formed to counter the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Abdullah also responded to People’s Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti’s criticisms directed at the National Conference, stating that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are well aware of their party’s principles and values. He dismissed Mufti’s remarks, affirming that their stance is clear, and further elaboration is unnecessary.
