Congress MP Jothimani Slams Seat Selection Process, Alleges Lack of Transparency
Karur MP criticises alliance process, warns of damage to party’s grassroots strength
Chennai, Mar 28: Congress MP S. Jothimani from the Karur constituency has voiced strong criticism over the party’s seat allocation process within the DMK led alliance in Tamil Nadu, alleging a complete lack of transparency and claiming that the party’s interests have been severely undermined.
In a sharply worded social media post on March 27, Jothimani stated that her demand for a transparent and consultative approach in selecting constituencies was ignored by those overseeing the process. She emphasised that decisions should have been made after detailed discussions rather than behind closed doors.
The Congress party has been allotted 28 seats as part of the alliance for the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled on April 23. Jothimani, however, alleged that the selection process was conducted in a highly secretive manner, sidelining internal dialogue and collective decision making.
She also expressed concern over the impact on party workers, stating that the efforts of dedicated grassroots volunteers were being disregarded. According to her, individuals with little contribution to the party’s growth were being favoured in the decision making process.
Issuing a strong warning ahead of the candidate announcement, the MP criticised what she described as a “transactional approach” to politics and cautioned that such practices could seriously harm the party’s future in Tamil Nadu.
Jothimani further indicated that she would speak in greater detail once the official list of constituencies and candidates is released, making it clear that she does not intend to remain silent on the issue.
Tamil Nadu, which has a 234-member Assembly, will go to the polls on April 23, with major political parties intensifying preparations for the electoral contest.
