Jammu, July 13:  Congress protest against price rise, protesters burnt the effigy of Modi Govt.in  Jammu District against unprecedented price hike of petro, diesel, gas and other essential commodities.

The protest was organized by District Congress Committee Jammu Rural under the presidentship of Th. Hari Singh Chib and led by Former Ministers and Vice Presidents PCC Shri Mula Ram and Raman Bhalla, besides Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma as well as functionaries of DCC and Block Congress Committee.

Holding placards in their hands and raising slogans against BJP Govt. for the unprecedented hike of petrol, diesel, gas and all other commodities, the protestors marched through the main bazaar of Ghou Manhasan and burnt the effigy of the BJP Govt. at the Centre.

Demanding immediate rollback of hike in petrol and diesel prices, the protesters raised slogans against the unprecedented taxes on petrol, diesel and gas besides unchecked prices of all commodities of common use breaking the backbone of the poor and common man. They charged the Modi Govt. of being insensitive to the hardships being faced by the people who are in great economic distress.

Addressing the gathering Shri Mula Ram lambasted the BJP Govt. for charging huge taxes on petroleum products and its failure to check the prices of all commodities of common use including eatables, edible oils, fertilizers, agriculture appliances and other things. While in opposition, the BJP leaders would raise and agitate for any fraction of increase in prices of petrol, diesel and gas and other commodities but in power, they are charging huge taxes and justifying the increase in prices.

Shri Raman Bhalla in his address lashed out at the BJP Govt. led by Shri Modi for the tax loot and burdening the common man with unchecked prices of all commodities and the record rates of petrol, diesel and gas. He said that the rates of petrol, diesel and gas have gone sky high and petrol has crossed Rs.100/- per liter.

He questioned that the same BJP and its leaders who were very concerned about the prices of petroleum products when the UPA Govt. was in power and the rates of crude oil in the international market were touching sky but today when the rates of the crude oil are less than half of the rates of the UPA time, why the petrol and diesel is one and a half time more than UPA Govt. It is because of the increase in the taxes by the Centre that the rates are so high. He accused the Modi Govt. of forcing the people to pay from their nose when the economy is already very lowest level in the country. He said that BJP and Modi Govt. does not bother of the hardships and the economic distress being faced by the common people during the worst period.

Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma said that the Excise Duty on petrol and diesel during the UPA regime was  Rs.3.51 and Rs.9.46  respectively on one litre while the present Modi Govt. is charging Rs. 33.80 and 31.83  for one Liter of petrol and diesel, leading to a sharp rise in the prices of petroleum products and other commodities of common use. He said that Modi Govt. is skinning the common man and collecting taxes.

Dist.  President  Hari  Singh Chib accused BJP of looting the people through unreasonable taxes leading to an unprecedented hike of all commodities. He said petrol and diesel prices directly affect the common people but the Centre has not formulated any policy to deal with the economic slowdown and they passed on the burden to the masses.” No government can ignore people’s voice. Hike in petrol and diesel prices will have to be reversed,” he demanded.
