Congress RJD ‘Mahagathbandhan’ Set to Announce Bihar Seat Sharing Agreement Today
Alliance leaders meet in Delhi to conclude seat allocation ahead of November Assembly elections, aiming to challenge NDA.
New Delhi, Oct 13: The Congress and RJD led ‘Mahagathbandhan’ (grand alliance) is set to announce its seat sharing pact for Bihar Assembly elections 2025 following deliberations in Delhi on Monday.
RJD Supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and his son Tejashwi Yadav, along with leaders of smaller allies, convened with Congress leadership to finalize the distribution of seats. The discussions come amid increasing pressure on the opposition after the BJP led NDA announced its seat-sharing arrangement.
Earlier, Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahni, a Mahagathbandhan ally, hinted at internal challenges, saying:
“Mahagathbandhan has become a bit unwell. We are going to Delhi, and all the doctors are in Delhi, so better treatment will happen there. We will return to Patna after getting healthy.”
However, Bihar Congress leader Shakeel Ahmad Khan downplayed the discord, assuring that the alliance remains united. “A meeting will be held, and everything will be finalised. The Mahagathbandhan is united, and the current corrupt government is certain to go,” he said.
Meanwhile, the NDA’s seat-sharing pact has allocated 101 seats each to Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) and BJP, while Union Minister Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) will contest 29 seats. Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Party (Secular) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) will each contest six seats.
The Bihar Assembly elections, for the 243 member legislature, are scheduled in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with vote counting on November 14. The Mahagathbandhan aims to present a consolidated front to challenge the ruling NDA government.
