Cooking Gas Gets Costlier: Domestic LPG Up Rs 60, Commercial Cylinders Up Rs 115
Cooking gas prices rise across major cities as global energy costs climb amid West Asia tensions
New Delhi, Mar 7: Domestic cooking gas and commercial LPG cylinder prices have been increased across the country, reflecting the surge in global energy costs linked to the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
According to updated rates on the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) website, the price of a 14.2-kg non-subsidised LPG cylinder for household consumers in Delhi has risen by Rs 60 to Rs 913, up from Rs 853 earlier. The revision took effect on March 7.
Officials from the petroleum sector said the upward revision follows the sharp rise in international fuel prices after military tensions escalated in West Asia.
Despite the latest revision, industry sources maintain that cooking gas in India remains comparatively cheaper than in several neighbouring countries.
This marks the second increase in domestic LPG prices in the past 11 months. The previous revision took place in April last year, when the cost of a cylinder was raised by Rs 50.
Prices differ across cities due to variations in local taxes and levies. Following the latest revision, a domestic LPG cylinder now costs Rs 912.50 in Mumbai, Rs 939 in Kolkata and Rs 928.50 in Chennai.
Beneficiaries under the government’s Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana will continue to receive a subsidy of Rs 300 per 14.2-kg cylinder for up to 12 refills annually. The scheme has provided free LPG connections to more than 10 crore economically weaker households since its launch in 2016.
Meanwhile, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder, commonly used by hotels, restaurants and other establishments, has been increased by Rs 114.5. In Delhi, the revised rate now stands at Rs 1,883 per cylinder.
The latest hike follows another increase of Rs 28 implemented on March 1, taking the cumulative rise in commercial LPG prices to Rs 302.50 so far this year.
