CPI(M) Leader Tarigami Calls for Immediate Lift of RTC Bus Restrictions in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, Nov 30: Expressing grave concern over the ongoing restrictions preventing Road Transport Corporation (RTC) buses from entering Srinagar city, CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has called for an immediate reversal of this policy. He stated that these restrictions, in place since November 4 when the Legislative Assembly session began, have created significant difficulties for daily commuters, particularly those who rely on affordable and accessible public transport.

Tarigami emphasized that RTC buses have become an essential part of the region’s public transport network, serving as a vital lifeline for thousands of people. The leader pointed out that the ban has not only caused hardship for commuters but is also having a negative financial impact, with daily revenue losses of approximately Rs 4 lakh for the UT exchequer.

Buses from districts in North Kashmir are currently being stopped at the Bemina Bypass, while those from South Kashmir are halted at Pantha Chowk. This has disrupted the smooth and efficient movement of passengers, particularly affecting those who depend on these buses for their daily travel.

Highlighting the positive role of RTC buses in enhancing connectivity and financial recovery for the debt-ridden Corporation, Tarigami urged the administration to remove the restrictions and allow RTC buses to operate freely within the Srinagar city limits, thereby alleviating the ongoing hardships faced by commuters.
