CPI’s D. Raja Criticizes ‘Naxal Mukt Bharat’ Policy, Calls for Dialogue with Naxal Groups

Amid ongoing anti-Naxal operations, CPI General Secretary calls for dialogue, sparking criticism from BJP

Communist Party of India (CPI) General Secretary D. Raja has raised concerns over the government’s “Naxal Mukt Bharat” initiative, urging authorities to consider a proposal submitted by Naxal groups for talks. His remarks have triggered sharp criticism from the BJP, which accused CPI and Congress of supporting Maoist violence.

During a press conference, Raja stated, “I demand that the government accept the proposal made by the Naxals. What is this Naxal Mukt Bharat? First, they spoke of Congress Mukt Bharat what happened to that? Tomorrow it might be Communist Mukt Bhara. If the BJP and RSS remain in power, India’s future could be imperiled. To save India and the Constitution, the BJP RSS must be removed from power.”

Raja’s comments come against the backdrop of the ongoing anti-Naxal operation, “Operation Black Forest,” under which the number of most-affected Naxal districts has reportedly dropped to six. The government aims to make India Naxal free by March 31, 2026. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has emphasized that armed operations alone cannot end Naxalism, highlighting the need to counter the movement’s ideology.

Addressing the issue, BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said, “CPI and Congress oppose India’s fight against Red Terror. D. Raja’s statements in support of violent Naxals and Maoists are unacceptable.”

The debate underscores the differing perspectives on addressing Naxalism in India, with some critics arguing that a purely militaristic approach is insufficient, while CPI advocates for dialogue to resolve the issue.
