20-06-2023 : On Tuesday, the State Investigation Agency (SIA) Kashmir carried out searches at six locations across four districts in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The searches were conducted as part of an ongoing investigation into the misuse of social media platforms for unlawful and secessionist activities. The districts where the searches took place include Kupwara, Anantnag, Pulwama, and Srinagar, according to a statement released by the department.
The raids were conducted based on the FIR No 05/2023 registered by SIA Kashmir at the Police Station SIA/CIK. The case specifically relates to the misuse of social media platforms for promoting unlawful and secessionist activities. The investigation focuses on Indian-based social media entities that allegedly collaborate with foreign associates to spread hatred against India and promote terror activities.
The primary objective of the pre-dawn searches conducted by SIA personnel was to identify individuals and groups involved in propagating secessionist and anti-India sentiments through various social media platforms. These identified entities are suspected of conspiring with foreign associates to advance their nefarious agenda, which includes instigating and supporting acts of terrorism. Additionally, these entities have targeted government servants, impeding their ability to carry out their lawful duties.
During the searches, SIA Kashmir seized substantial digital and physical evidence, including mobile phones, SIM cards, and other relevant materials. The agency emphasized that the evidence will be meticulously analyzed to build a robust case against the accused individuals and organizations involved. This comprehensive investigation will ensure that subsequent legal proceedings are carried out effectively.
The misuse of social media platforms for unlawful and secessionist activities poses a significant threat to national security and communal harmony. The authorities are taking these issues seriously and are determined to uncover and address such activities promptly. By conducting these searches and collecting evidence, the SIA Kashmir aims to dismantle networks involved in spreading hatred, inciting violence, and supporting terrorism through social media channels.
It is crucial for law enforcement agencies to stay vigilant and proactive in monitoring and investigating activities that pose a threat to national security. Combating the misuse of social media platforms and ensuring that they are not exploited for unlawful purposes is essential in maintaining peace and stability within the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The ongoing investigation by SIA Kashmir will play a critical role in exposing the individuals and organizations responsible for promoting secessionist and anti-India activities through social media and bringing them to justice.
