“CRPF Has Taken Every Possible Step to Maintain Peace in Srinagar: IG”

Third CRPF Cricket Tournament begins with strong youth participation and message of harmony

SRINAGAR, Nov 22: Inspector General of CRPF P. K. Sharma on Saturday said that every possible measure has been taken to ensure peace and security in Srinagar as the Third CRPF Cricket Tournament commenced in the city.

Speaking to reporters, the IG said the tournament has been organised annually since 2023 during November–December with the aim of engaging local youth and promoting a positive sports culture.

“Around 123 teams from Srinagar, Baramulla, and Ganderbal applied this year. However, due to time limitations, a draw was conducted and sixteen teams were shortlisted,” Sharma said.

The event is being held in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association, while the grounds have been provided by the University of Kashmir.

Emphasising youth involvement, Sharma noted that age restrictions have been introduced for U-19 and U-23 categories. “Kashmir has immense cricketing talent and enthusiasm. Through sports, we want to strengthen peace, harmony, and positive engagement with the youth,” he added.

On the security situation in Srinagar, the IG said that the CRPF, in coordination with J&K Police, the Army, and civil administration, is working collectively to maintain stability. “I don’t want to go into details since today is about sports, but from our side, every possible measure has been taken,” he said.

Sharma further stated that the CRPF has been serving in the region for 35 years, and public cooperation continues to grow, contributing to a more peaceful environment.
