Daily Wagers’ Regularisation Is a Humanitarian Concern, Says Waheed Para

PDP leader urges phased regularisation, calls decades of service without security unjust

J&K, Mar 30 : Waheed-ur-Rehman Para on Monday underscored that the concerns of daily wage workers in Jammu and Kashmir extend beyond employment, describing the issue as one rooted in humanitarian responsibility.

While addressing the media outside the Assembly in Srinagar, he highlighted that close to one lakh workers are engaged in critical public services such as healthcare, ambulance operations, public health engineering, and irrigation, ensuring uninterrupted functioning of essential sectors.

He pointed out that many of these workers have spent decades in service without formal recognition, job security, or institutional support. Stressing the need for corrective measures, he suggested reviving earlier mechanisms like biometric registration and policy frameworks to streamline their inclusion into formal employment structures.

Calling for a united political approach, the Pulwama legislator urged stakeholders to initiate a phased plan to address the issue, stating that prolonged neglect of such workers undermines fairness and accountability.

In addition to labour concerns, he also advocated for administrative restructuring, including the creation of new districts and divisions to strengthen governance in far-flung areas. He further called for broader discussions on policy matters such as regulation aligned with public sentiment.
