Dalit Leader Shaheed Bhagat Amarnath Ji to Be Honored in Convention Amid Mounting Fury Over Policy Failures

June 1 Convention to Echo Voices of Dalit Rights, SC/ST/OBC Confederation Warns Govt of Rising Anger

Jammu:  26.05.2025: The All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organizations held a press conference at its Jammu headquarters to announce a convention honoring Shaheed Bhagat Amarnath Ji, a champion of Dalit rights.

The convention will be held on June 1, 2025, at 10AM at Prem Resort, Muthi, Jammu, to pay tribute to Shaheed Bhagat Amarnath Ji, who sacrificed his life for the rights of the Dalit community in J&K.

The event seeks to continue the legacy of Shaheed Bhagat Amarnath Ji and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s struggle for social justice and equality, while also sending a strong message to the government about the community’s demands.

R.K. Kalsotra, State President of the Confederation, highlighted key issues, including, Reservation in promotions has been stopped and not restoring even clear verdicits of Supreme Court and High Courts, huge backlog of 1.05 lakh posts is pending to fill, not implementing Forest Rights Act, representation of OBCs, with only 8% reservation despite their 27% share in the population, wrongful Inclusion of forward castes in OBC reservations, Rise in caste-based atrocities.

Kalsotra further said that community is under shock on seeing a private member bill presented in the last assembly by Govt MLA wherein reservation percentage instead of increasinhg is being decreased.

The convention aims to deliberate on these issues, bring together intellectuals, and push for the rights of SC/ST/OBC communities. Kalsotra criticized the state administration for being lethargic and ignoring the needs of these communities.

The convention will serve as a platform to demand immediate implementation of the agenda, failing which the government will face strong opposition. Kalsotra emphasized that the community will no longer tolerate inaction and will take collective action to ensure their rights are protected and respected.
