Dalit OBC Minority Adivasi Confederation Holds Convention in Jammu, Passes Landmark Key Resolutions

State President R.K. Kalsotra outlined the convention’s key demands, including conducting a caste census, protecting the Waqf Board from undue interference, fully implementing the Mandal Commission report, opposing privatization, and ensuring reservations in the private sector, judiciary, and government-funded projects. Additional demands included filling vacant posts, adopting a uniform education policy, guaranteeing MSP for farmers, and preserving the rights of ST communities to water, forests, and land.

Specific to Jammu and Kashmir, the confederation passed a landmark resolution advocating the restoration of statehood and safeguarding the rights of refugees, Gorkhas, and Valmiki/Christian/Muslim communities. It also called for reversing the cancellation of land mutations, protecting local job and land rights, restoring reservation in promotions, and permanently employing daily wagers across sectors. Delegates emphasized re-advertising SSRB posts to address the SC/ST/OBC backlog, monitoring the SC/ST Atrocities Act through a dedicated fast-track cell, and extending age relaxation for SC/ST candidates to five years.

The convention culminated in a resolution for delegates to join a Maharally at Ramleela Maidan, New Delhi, on December 1, to advocate for the protection of the Constitution, democracy, and fundamental rights.

Prominent speakers, including Narinder Singh Khalsa, Bansi Lal Choudhary, Ashu Peter Mattoo, and others, reinforced the call for justice and equity, highlighting the convention’s pivotal role in shaping the future for marginalized communities in the region.

By addressing long-standing demands and passing crucial resolutions, the confederation has taken a decisive step towards achieving social justice, equality, and empowerment for the underprivileged in Jammu and Kashmir.
