Kishtwar, 21-01-2021 : With an aim to identify, protect and develop the water bodies in the district, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Ashok Sharma today reviewed the status of the water bodies which includes ponds and springs in the district here in a meeting at his office chamber DC office Complex.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Pawan Parihar, ACD kishtwar Kishore Singh Katoch, DFO Division Kishtwar Vijay Kumar, ALC Kishtwar Anoop Kumar, AO tourism Dalip Kumar Rathore, NT Kishtwar Javeed Ahmed Khandey besides other officials.
During the meeting, threadbare discussion regarding the modalities of the identification, preservation and development of the ponds and the springs in the district were held.
CEO Kishtwar Development Authority Pawan Parihar informed the chair that there is a pond at sarkoot near Gori Shankar Mandir Kishtwar which is being developed and maintained by KDA but due to the irresponsible behaviour of the residents surrounding the pond, it is being contaminated by the wastewater and solid wastes coming out of these houses incessantly.
Taking strong note of the issue, DC Kishtwar directed tehsildar Kishtwar to take strict action against the violators besides to submit a list of the encroachers and evacuate the encroachments around the pond immediately.
To develop the natural spring and ponds in the rural areas, DC directed the ACD Kishtwar to the identity protect and upgrade these water bodies under MGNREGA besides ensuring the sanitation of the same.
