DDC Kathua chairs Road Safety Committee Meeting

KATHUA, FEBRUARY 11: District Development Commissioner, Kathua Rahul Yadav, today chaired the District Road Safety Committee meeting to review Road Safety scenario in the district here at DC Office complex.

The District Road Safety Committee also held detailed deliberations in light of directions of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety.

Pertinently, it was the First meeting of the current calendar year wherein the Road Safety profile of the district was presented through  a PowerPoint presentation by the Regional Transport Officer, Sunil Kumar.

The Chairman, while reviewing the safety measures, directed the NHAI to close all unauthorized cuts on the National Highway and prevent encroachments. The authorities of the Health and Medical Education department were directed to present the Health care mechanism in the district to minimize mortality and morbidity due to road accidents.

The NHAI and PWD (R&B) departments were also directed to identify and rectify the Black spots on National Highway, Entry point Lakhanpur and other roads of the district.

During the meeting provision under Jammu and Kashmir Road Accident Victim Funds Rules, 2019 were discussed and directions were issued to the concerned departments to expedite the cases under prescribed Rules.

Earlier, while giving a brief on achievements of the Motor Vehicles Department, the RTO informed that the department has conducted 1002 challans, spot fines and collected an amount of Rs. 138.95 Lakh as fine/ penalty in the year 2021-22.

Besides the meeting also reviewed Action Taken Report on the 10th District Road Safety Committee meeting, Additional measures to reduce road accidents, Reporting of accident for seeking road accident victim funds, Involvements of NCC Cadets/ NSS Volunteers and interested NGOs/ volunteer organizations for creating awareness among general public, Identification and rectification of encroachments, which created obstacles in smooth traffic movements, Strict Implementation of provision of Motor Vehicles Act and minimizing fatalities due to road accidents were also discussed in the meeting.
