DECLINING MORALITY

The world has advanced greatly in terms of material things, but not nearly as much in terms of moral and spiritual development. In any event, positive and morally upright behaviour and attitudes are necessary for society to make the best use of the monetary gains, therefore the latter is equally as vital as the former. Declining morality, particularly among youngsters, attitudes, and behaviour are big issues in many nations today, and there is no doubt that this is strongly correlated with increased crime, corruption, and other social ills that are endangering society’s stability and peace. There are numerous causes behind this bad tendency, and it is far from simple to find remedies in a world where people are getting more and more complex. But if community coherence, peace, and stability are to be maintained, it is crucial to stop this moral and attitude erosion. However, the ideal strategy for solving this issue is to make sure that children are being taught right and are exposed to a healthy environment because this early instruction has a big impact on how they will act and value things as adults. And here is where parents and teachers come in, as they are the ones that children spend the most time around, serving as their first mentors and role models. Unfortunately, in today’s society, there is an increase in domestic violence, abuse, and unstable families. As a result, more and more children are growing up in unsteady and, in some cases, dangerous environments. Additionally, when both parents work more often to meet financial responsibilities and rising living expenses, many children are left without adequate parental supervision, leaving them open to the numerous harmful influences in society. Electronic media has been criticised for its increased use of violence, profanity, lewd music, and pornography in television programmes and other kinds of electronic media. It goes without saying that this is one of the ways that many negative attitudes and behaviours are transmitted to young minds. It has become more difficult for parents to monitor and restrict what their children have access to through electronic media as a result of technological improvements. In today’s society, which places a greater emphasis on academic accomplishment and performance, character development appears to have been overlooked. Children receive more praise for their accomplishments than for having morality. We give learning about our children’s scholastic achievements more weight than teaching them moral values that would strengthen their character and enable them to make moral decisions in the future. Instilling positive human attributes and moral ideals in children is crucial in order to balance out anything negative and detrimental from their environment.

Early life is the best time to start doing this. The responsibility rests with the teachers and the parents. As materialism affects and permeates every aspect of society, there is an urgent need to concentrate on and promote ethical values among young people.
