Deepti Sharma Becomes Leading Wicket Taker in Women’s T20Is During 5th T20I
India all rounder claims 152nd T20I wicket, surpassing Australia’s Megan Schutt, as India completes 5-0 series whitewash.
India, Dec 31 : India all rounder Deepti Sharma etched her name in cricket history by becoming the highest wicket-taker in Women’s T20 Internationals, claiming her 152nd wicket during the fifth and final T20I against Sri Lanka at the Greenfield International Stadium on Tuesday.
India completed a dominant 5-0 series whitewash, defending 175 to secure a 15-run victory in the final match. Deepti finished with figures of 1 for 28 from her four overs. With this milestone, she surpassed Australia’s Megan Schutt, who had 151 wickets, after dismissing Nilakshika Silva in the 14th over. Pakistan’s Nida Dar ranks third with 144 wickets.
Among Indian bowlers, Radha Yadav is second on the all time list with 103 wickets in 86 innings, making Deepti and Radha the only Indian women to cross 100 wickets in T20Is.
Earlier in the series, during the third T20I on December 26, 2025, Deepti became the first cricketer across men’s and women’s cricket to achieve 1,000 runs and 150 wickets in T20 Internationals.
The 28-year-old has played 133 T20Is for India and is ranked third in the ICC Women’s T20I all rounder rankings with 387 points. Hayley Matthews leads with 505 points, followed by New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr on 434. Deepti also attained the No. 1 spot in the ICC Women’s T20I bowling rankings during the first T20I against Sri Lanka on December 21, edging past Australia’s Annabel Sutherland.
Beyond T20Is, Deepti has taken 20 wickets in Tests and 162 in ODIs, showcasing her consistency across formats. Her rising stature was reflected in the Women’s Premier League auction, where she rejoined UP Warriorz for ₹3.2 crore—the second-highest bid in league history.
