Delhi Boosts Security Around Major Religious and Heritage Sites Amid Terror Threat

Heightened vigilance around Red Fort and Chandni Chowk after alleged LeT threat

New Delhi, Feb 21: Security has been significantly increased across key religious and heritage sites in Delhi, including the Red Fort and crowded areas of Chandni Chowk, following intelligence reports of a possible terror threat, officials said on Saturday.

Central intelligence agencies indicated that the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) may have targeted prominent religious locations in India. Specific inputs reportedly suggested a temple in the Chandni Chowk area could be a potential target.

Authorities are treating the threat seriously, stepping up deployment of personnel, CCTV monitoring, vehicle checks, and positioning bomb disposal squads, dog units, and quick reaction teams at vulnerable points. The alert comes amid concerns that LeT could attempt an IED based attack, possibly linked to the February 6 blast at a mosque in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Officials emphasized that the measures are precautionary, and while vigilance has been intensified, the public should not panic. Citizens have been urged to report any suspicious activity immediately.

This security push follows the deadly November 10, 2025 car explosion near the Red Fort, which killed 13 people and injured over 20. Authorities are continuing intelligence verification and coordination between Delhi Police and central agencies to ensure public safety.
