Delhi Court Defers Verdict on ED Chargesheet in National Herald Case to December 16

Special Judge postpones order as Congress leaders face allegations of money laundering and asset acquisition

New Delhi, Nov 29: A Delhi court on Saturday postponed its order on taking cognisance of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) chargesheet in the National Herald case, with Special Judge Vishal Gogne deferring the pronouncement to December 16.

The ED has accused Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, along with the late party leaders Motilal Vora and Oscar Fernandes, as well as Suman Dubey, Sam Pitroda, and the private company Young Indian, of conspiracy and money laundering.

The agency alleges that the accused acquired properties worth around Rs 2,000 crore belonging to Associated Journals Limited (AJL), the publisher of the National Herald newspaper. The Gandhis are said to have held a 76% stake in Young Indian, which allegedly “fraudulently” took over AJL assets in exchange for a Rs 90 crore loan.

The chargesheet specifically names Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Sam Pitroda, Suman Dubey, Sunil Bhandari, Young Indian, and Dotex Merchandise Pvt Ltd as parties involved in the case.
