Delhi Government Sanctions Rs 100 Crore for Lake Rejuvenation, Approves India’s First E-Waste Park
Initiatives aim to restore 160 lakes and establish a modern eco-friendly e-waste park in Holambi Kalan, strengthening Delhi’s environmental sustainability efforts
New Delhi, Dec 24: The Delhi government has approved two major initiatives to boost environmental sustainability in the capital: a Rs 100 crore project to rejuvenate 160 lakes and the construction of India’s first eco-friendly e-waste park.
Rejuvenation of 160 Lakes
The project targets 160 lakes under the state government’s jurisdiction, out of over 1,000 water bodies in Delhi. The initiative aims to control pollution, enhance water storage capacity, and address the city’s growing water scarcity concerns.
The scheme will be executed in collaboration with the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) and the Delhi Parks Authority (DPA). The DPCC had earlier contributed ₹19 crore to support lake revival. Beyond water management, the restored lakes are expected to improve environmental health and urban sustainability.
India’s First E-Waste Park at Holambi Kalan
In a landmark move, the Delhi Cabinet has sanctioned the establishment of India’s first modern e-waste park in Holambi Kalan. The park will focus on safe collection, processing, and recycling of electronic waste, promoting eco-friendly practices and generating employment opportunities in the green sector.
These initiatives reflect Delhi’s commitment to sustainable urban development, combining water conservation with cutting-edge waste management to create a cleaner, greener city.
