Delhi Govt Allocates ₹260 Crore for Free LPG Cylinders on Holi, Diwali

CM Rekha Gupta unveils allocations across health, education, transport, and women empowerment under the “green budget”

NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister and Finance Minister Rekha Gupta presented the 2026-27 budget in the Delhi Assembly on Tuesday, announcing a Rs 260 crore allocation to provide every household with a free LPG cylinder during Holi and Diwali, as part of the government’s social welfare drive.

Focusing on social empowerment, CM Gupta earmarked Rs 7,406 crore for women and child development initiatives. Key schemes include Rs 5,110 crore for the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, Rs 450 crore for free bus travel for women and transgender individuals, Rs 260 crore for free LPG cylinders, and Rs 128 crore for the “Lakhpati Beti Yojana.”

In health, the budget allocates Rs 12,645 crore, including Rs 150 crore for ICU and hospital infrastructure, Rs 787 crore for medicines and equipment, and Rs 202 crore to expand the Ayushman scheme. Plans also include setting up over 750 new health centers and Rs 25 crore for the ANMOL newborn screening program.

Education receives Rs 19,148 crore, with Rs 200 crore for new school buildings, Rs 275 crore for school expansion, Rs 90 crore for bicycles for girl students, Rs 10 crore for laptops for meritorious students, Rs 150 crore for smart classrooms, and Rs 720 crore for technical education initiatives.

The transport sector has been allocated Rs 8,374 crore, including the introduction of 6,130 new electric buses (targeting 7,500 by 2027), Rs 2,885 crore for metro expansion, and Rs 200 crore under the electric vehicle policy.

For environmental initiatives, Rs 130 crore has been set aside for afforestation and new forest development, reinforcing the government’s commitment to a greener Delhi under the “green budget.”
