Delhi HC Directs Centre to Provide Legal Assistance to Celina Jaitly’s Brother Detained in UAE

Court orders appointment of nodal officer, seeks report by December 4 as actor pleads for brother’s release

New Delhi, Nov 4 : In a real life battle that feels more emotional than any film, Bollywood actor Celina Jaitly has turned to the courts to seek justice for her brother, Major (Retd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, who has been detained in the United Arab Emirates for over a year.
Major Vikrant was reportedly taken into custody on September 6, 2024, under unclear circumstances, and his family has had limited contact with him since. In a significant development, the Delhi High Court has now directed the Union government to ensure that he receives adequate legal representation in the UAE and that his family is regularly updated on his condition and legal proceedings.
The court has also instructed the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to appoint a nodal officer responsible for coordinating between the Jaitly family and Indian authorities handling the case abroad.
Celina’s legal team argued that Major Vikrant’s prolonged detention without consistent access to legal counsel or family communication violates basic human rights and international law. The retired Army officer has been living in the UAE since 2016, working in a trading and risk management firm, but his family claims they still do not know the exact reason for his detention.
The court emphasized that the first priority must be to re-establish communication between Celina Jaitly and her brother and to ensure his wife is allowed to contact him as well.
The Delhi High Court has ordered a detailed status report to be filed before the next hearing, scheduled for December 4, 2025.
