Delhi HC Rejects Hizbul Chief’s Sons’ Plea Against Terror Funding Charges
Sons of Syed Salahuddin fail to overturn framing of charges NIA investigation continues
New Delhi, Dec 23: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed the petitions of two sons of Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin, along with others, challenging the framing of charges against them in a terror funding case.
A bench comprising Justices Vivek Chaudhary and Manoj Jain rejected the appeals, ruling them not maintainable. The detailed judgement is awaited.
The accused had contested a 2021 trial court order that framed charges against them. The case, investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), involves the alleged transfer of funds through hawala channels by Pakistan-based terrorists to Jammu and Kashmir to finance secessionist and terrorist activities in the region.
Shahid Yousuf, Salahuddin’s son, was arrested in October 2017, while his brother Syed Ahmad Shakeel was taken into custody by the NIA on August 30, 2018, from his Srinagar residence in connection with the 2011 terror funding case.
According to the NIA, Shahid Yousuf allegedly received funds from Hizbul Mujahideen operatives abroad and was formally charge-sheeted in 2018. Shakeel is accused of receiving money through Western Union from absconding accused Aijaz Ahmad Bhat and facilitating collection of funds for the terrorist organisation via operatives in Saudi Arabia.
Syed Salahuddin, designated a global terrorist by the United States, is the self-styled commander of Hizbul Mujahideen. The NIA continues its probe into the network of terror funding and related activities.
