Delhi High Court issued notice to media organizations on reporting issues

Prohibition of alleged irresponsible and abusive reporting against the film industry

New Delhi, 09 November. The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the media organizations concerned hearing the demand for ban on alleged irresponsible and abusive reporting against the film industry. The bench of Justice Rajiv Shakdhar has directed to file the reply in two weeks. The next hearing of the case will be on 14 December.

During the hearing, lawyers Rajeev Nayyar and Akhil Sibal said on behalf of the petitioners that the film industry was called by the news channels as Kingpin of Bollywood, Pakistan Funded, Nepotists etc. Rajiv Nayan said that the news channels in their reporting said that Deepika Padukone had asked to deliver the goods. He said that the news channels asked if any action would be taken against Shahrukh Khan for anti-national activities.

During the hearing, Akhil Sibal said that news channels should be banned from reporting abusive. The media is not following the self-regulation. He cited the example of court decisions on media reporting of a case while the case was pending. He said that the News Broadcast Standards Authority also said that knowing the truth does not mean that media groups violate the rights of an accused and destroy his life. The court had asked whether you also demanded compensation. The hero said no. The court said that you can seek compensation during the trial.

During the hearing, Google India and Facebook India sought to remove themselves as parties to the case. Accepting their demand, the court ordered Google and Facebook to remove the name from the party’s list.

The petition has been filed by 38 Bollywood producers. The petition said that these media institutions are violating the right to privacy of the people of Bollywood. These Bollywood producers have said in their petition that reporters from media institutions accused the film industry of doing drugs while reporting the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Using words such as dirt, dirt, filth, draggies in these media institutions, the news report said that it is necessary to clean up the filth of Bollywood. Media institutions in their report have described the film industry as the dirtiest industry in the country.

The petition has said that irresponsible reporting by media institutions has severely affected the lives of people associated with Bollywood. That too at a time when due to the Corona crisis there has been a lot of loss of revenue and opportunities. The petition said that the privacy of Bollywood people has been violated and an attempt has been made to damage their image. Reporting is being done as if the people of Bollywood are criminals.

The petition said that some reporters of media institutions have been punished earlier by the court for irresponsible reporting. Producers claim that some reporters have also been found guilty by the court of running the wrong news. The petition states that some news channels are openly violating the program code of Section 05 of the Cable Television Network Regulation Act. They are mocking the judicial system by acting like a court by running a parallel investigation. Hindusthan Samachar (HC)
