Delhi High Court Takes Up Plea by Karisma Kapoor and Children on Sunjay Kapur Estate
Children allege stepmother Priya Kapur may have manipulated will; seek interim relief and detailed asset disclosure.
New Delhi: The children of Karisma Kapoor have approached the Delhi High Court, seeking a share in the late Sunjay Kapur’s estimated Rs 30,000 crore fortune. The petition alleges that their stepmother, Priya Kapur, may have tampered with the will to gain full control of the family assets.
Representing the minors, lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani highlighted that the will appeared mysterious and hastily drafted. He noted that the trust deed relating to the estate was withheld from the family and came to light only through a family employee, Dinesh Aggarwal. According to him, the will was unregistered, did not mention Karisma Kapoor’s children, and was read hurriedly at the Taj Hotel under circumstances that require scrutiny.
Jethmalani urged the court to grant interim relief to the children while the matter is investigated. Supporting Priya Kapur, lawyer Rajiv Nayar contended that the children’s suit is not maintainable and dismissed allegations of illegality.
The court issued summons and set a timeline for proceedings. Written statements are to be submitted within two weeks, with replications due within one week. The defendants have also been ordered to provide a detailed list of all movable and immovable properties.
Through their mother as legal guardian, Karisma Kapoor’s children are seeking remedies including partition of the estate and full accounts of all properties and assets. They allege incomplete knowledge of the full extent of their father’s assets, claiming Priya Kapur has intentionally withheld information to prevent them from receiving their rightful share.
The petition also provides insight into the children’s relationship with their father, portraying Sunjay Kapur as a devoted parent who actively involved them in his life and business. They assert that their father had promised them financial security and a stake in his business, and had named them as beneficiaries in the family trust.
Sunjay Kapur passed away on June 12, 2025, during a polo match in Windsor, UK. His death has intensified the family dispute, particularly over access to his vast estate.
