Delhi Man Arrested for Attending Virtual Court Hearing in Undergarments, Smoking and Drinking

Md Imran, a 32-year-old history-sheeter, disrupts Tis Hazari Court proceedings via WebEx; police recover devices used in offence

NEW DELHI, Oct 4: Delhi Police have arrested a man for disrupting virtual court proceedings by appearing in his undergarments while smoking and drinking, officials said on Saturday.

The accused, Md Imran (32) from Gokulpuri, is a known history-sheeter with over 50 cases registered across Delhi, including robbery and snatching. A case was filed on September 22 following a complaint from court record keeper Anshul Singhal of Tis Hazari Courts.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia stated, “On September 16 and 17, an unknown individual joined the court’s video conferencing sessions under the name Akib Akhlak, appearing in undergarments while consuming alcohol and smoking. Despite repeated instructions, he continued to disrupt proceedings.”

Police investigations using IP addresses, call data records, and local intelligence traced the accused to Chaman Park, Old Mustafabad, where he was arrested from his residence.

During interrogation, Imran admitted that he joined the virtual court sessions out of curiosity after learning about the WebEx platform from an acquaintance. He confirmed appearing in undergarments, smoking, and drinking during the hearings.

Authorities recovered a mobile phone, SIM card, and router used by Imran in committing the offence. A school dropout and former air conditioner mechanic, he had been jailed previously and released in September 2021. After his release, he allegedly resumed criminal activities to fund his addiction to drugs and alcohol.

Further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
