Delhi Police Detains Around 150 Protesters During CJP Stir Against CEC

Security tightened across the capital as police detain people in preventive action, deploy drones and deny permission for the proposed demonstration at Jantar Mantar.

NEW DELHI, Oct 10: Delhi Police detained around 150 protesters on Friday as they attempted to reach Jantar Mantar for a proposed demonstration by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, police sources said.

The detentions took place across the New Delhi area, where police deployed drones to monitor the movement of people heading towards the proposed protest site. Security arrangements were strengthened to prevent unauthorised gatherings and maintain law and order in the national capital.

In a separate preventive measure, police detained more than 600 people with criminal records across all 15 districts of Delhi ahead of the planned demonstration, sources said. The action was intended to prevent potential disturbances during the protest.

Police are also monitoring individuals suspected of mobilising crowds or encouraging people to participate in the demonstration. Surveillance has been increased outside the residences of certain individuals as part of the security arrangements, the sources added.

Personnel have been deployed at strategic locations across the city, particularly along routes leading to Jantar Mantar and other sensitive areas. Authorities are maintaining a close watch on public movement to prevent any untoward incident.

Delhi Police has denied permission for the CJP’s proposed demonstration at Jantar Mantar, citing security concerns and procedural requirements. Officials have also stated that prohibitory orders remain in force in the New Delhi area and urged people to comply with the restrictions.

The proposed protest concerns allegations of voter-list manipulation during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and changes related to Form 6, the application used for voter registration.

The heightened security measures reflect the police’s efforts to prevent any breach of peace as tensions build ahead of the planned demonstration against the Chief Election Commissioner.
