Delhi Police Special Cell Foils Terror Plot, Arrests Three in Multi-State Raids

Delhi Police Special Cell foils terror plot; explosives and IED components recovered

Delhi, Sep 11: The Special Cell of Delhi Police, in coordination with central agencies, has busted a terror module and arrested three suspects after conducting multi-state raids, officials said on Thursday.

Two suspects, Aftab and Sufiyan, both residents of Mumbai, were apprehended in Delhi, while Ashar Danish was arrested from Ranchi, according to police sources.

Raids were launched following intelligence inputs suggesting that the module was planning a major terror attack in the country. Searches across multiple locations led to the recovery of weapons, chemicals, and materials used to manufacture Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

“Police teams recovered electronic components and equipment used in making IEDs. Several chemicals, including sodium bicarbonate, along with gas masks, electrical cables, fuse points, and other electrical materials were seized,” a source said.

In Ranchi, a raid at Danish’s hideout yielded chemicals and other explosive-related materials. Preliminary investigations indicate that the module was in contact with handlers and preparing for a large-scale attack.

Interrogation of the arrested suspects is ongoing to identify their network, funding sources, and potential targets. Digital devices seized during the raids are being analysed to trace contacts and possible international links.

Officials said the arrests have successfully averted a potential terror strike in the country.
