Jammu, 15 September 2025: The Department of Mathematics, Central University of Jammu, successfully organized an Orientation Programme for the newly admitted students of the Integrated B.Sc.-M.Sc. Mathematics, Batch 2025–29 and M.Sc. Mathematics, Batch 2025–27. The event marked the formal commencement of the academic journey for the new batches.
The programme held under the dynamic leadership of the hon’ble vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain aimed to introduce the freshers to the academic culture, research opportunities and institutional values of the university. The event began with a lamp-lighting ceremony by Prof. Suram Singh, Dean of Academics, Prof. Uday Pratap Singh, Associate Dean of Academics, Prof. Kamlesh Kumar, Head of the Department, Prof. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Dr. Sulekha Rani (Coordinator), Dr. Pavinder Singh (Proctor I/c), Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Dr. Km. Deepa, research scholars, and students. This was followed by the recitation of Sarasvati Vandana by Ms. Debottama Banerjee (M.Sc. student) and Ms. Tanisha Gupta (Research Scholar), invoking blessings for knowledge and wisdom.
Prof. Uday Pratap Singh, Associate Dean of Academics, provided an overview of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, with special focus on its structure and implementation in undergraduate and postgraduate programs. He elaborated on academic rules, regulations, examination patterns, grading systems, curriculum structure, and credit requirements, while also briefing students on eligibility criteria and academic standards.
Prof. Kamlesh Kumar, Head of the Department, introduced the university’s infrastructure, vision & mission, logo, facilities, clubs, and major achievements. He also shared the Mathematics Department’s vision & mission, achievements, offered programmes, curriculum, and syllabus. Additionally, he highlighted opportunities for pursuing minor degree courses through SWAYAM and NPTEL platforms, and explained the examination pattern, question paper format, and attendance requirements in detail.
The programme also featured a presentation on departmental academic activities, events, alumni connect, and sports activities, motivating students to engage actively and contribute to the department’s vibrant academic community.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Km. Deepa, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Academic kits were also distributed to the students.
The Orientation Programme was well-received and provided the new students with a comprehensive understanding of the academic framework, university facilities, and diverse opportunities available for their holistic development and growth.
