Lakhs gather at river ghats in Patna and other districts, CM Nitish Kumar joins celebrations at his residence
Patna, Oct 28: Lakhs of devotees across Bihar gathered on riverbanks early Tuesday morning to offer ‘Usha Arghya’ prayers to the rising sun marking the conclusion of the four day long Chhath Puja, the state’s most significant festival.
From the banks of the Ganga in Patna to local ponds and water bodies across districts, devotees assembled before dawn to perform the sacred rituals, expressing gratitude to the Sun God for sustaining life on earth.
Officials said the Patna district administration had made elaborate security and safety arrangements at more than 100 ghats along the Ganga to prevent any untoward incident. Medical camps and rescue teams were also deployed across major ghats to assist devotees.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar offered prayers at his official residence, 1 Anne Marg, along with his family members. The festival was also celebrated at the residences of several political leaders across the state capital.
The Chhath Puja celebrations began on October 25 with the ‘Nahai Khai’ ritual, followed by Kharna and the evening ‘Sandhya Arghya’. The festival, dedicated to the worship of the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya, is observed on the sixth day of Kartik Shukla Paksha, six days after Diwali.
