DGP Dilbag Singh Vows to Crush Terrorism with an Iron Fist in Jammu and Kashmir

06-09-2023 : Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police (DGP), Dilbag Singh, issued a stern warning against supporters of terrorists, vowing to deal with them firmly to prevent any new conspiracy originating from Pakistan that could disrupt peace in the region. His comments came after a thorough review of the security situation in Rajouri and Poonch.

Dilbag Singh emphasized that the security apparatus has been reinforced, and extensive search operations are in progress. He articulated his commitment to dismantling the connections between individuals taking refuge in Pakistan and their local supporters in Jammu and Kashmir who aid terrorism.

The DGP firmly stated, “Under no circumstances, will we allow terrorism to raise its ugly head again in Rajouri and Poonch districts. Terrorism will be crushed with an iron fist, and those supporting terrorism will be dealt with strictly.”

Singh revealed that some individuals, formerly involved in terrorism within the region but now residing in Pakistan, continue to engage in terrorist activities against India from across the border. He stated that their data has been compiled, and efforts have commenced to seize their properties and declare them proclaimed offenders. Furthermore, he highlighted that individuals on this side of the border who support these fugitives will face consequences as well.

Referring to the recent declaration of 16 terrorists as proclaimed offenders in Doda district, with some of their properties confiscated, Singh confirmed that similar actions are underway against those associated with terrorism in Rajouri and Poonch.

The DGP commended the collaborative efforts of security forces and civilian volunteers, including village defense guards, in successfully conducting consecutive operations against terrorists in Rajouri, Poonch, and Reasi over the past months. He stressed the reinforcement of the border grid and noted the prevention of infiltration attempts this year.

Singh reiterated the determination to thwart any fresh conspiracies originating from Pakistan and revealed plans to deploy additional police personnel to assist the army in strengthening the border security grid.

Regarding efforts to combat narcotics smuggling from Pakistan, the DGP confirmed that security agencies are vigilant and taking stringent action against perpetrators. He mentioned the seizure of substantial drug consignments dropped by drones along the Line of Control and the International Border.

Singh urged the public to remain vigilant and assist security forces in identifying individuals involved in criminal activities that not only threaten the nation but also jeopardize the lives of young people.

On the question of the number of active terrorists in the Rajouri-Poonch region, the DGP explained that providing an exact figure is challenging as they are frequently on the move, shifting between districts. However, he reported sightings of three groups, each numbering between nine and twelve terrorists. Additionally, three terrorists were recently neutralized in encounters in Khawas (Rajouri) and Chassana (Reasi), and efforts are underway to eliminate the remaining individuals.

Singh disclosed that one of the terrorists killed in Khawas on August 5 was a Pakistani national with a long history of terrorist activities in Rajouri. He was suspected of involvement in numerous attacks and was planning new ones. His elimination was deemed a significant success for the security forces.

The DGP also provided details about a recent encounter in Chassana’s Tuli area, where another terrorist, believed to be a Pakistani national, was killed. A search operation is ongoing to neutralize his associate, who managed to escape during the encounter under the cover of heavy rains and darkness.

During his visit, Dilbag Singh conducted a comprehensive review of the security situation in the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch. Additionally, he inaugurated a CCTV control room in Rajouri and released a book on terrorism, compiled by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Poonch-Rajouri Range, Haseeb Mughal.
