‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ Leaked Online, Pirated Stream Surfaces in Pakistan on Release Day
Viral clip from Lahore sparks debate as film gains traction through illegal viewing channels on release day
Mumbai, Mar 20 : The release of Dhurandhar: The Revenge has been marred by piracy concerns after an unauthorised version of the film surfaced online in Pakistan on the same day it hit theatres, despite an official ban in the country.
The issue gained attention after a Pakistan based journalist shared a video on social media claiming he was watching the film in Lahore. The clip, which quickly went viral, showed footage from the movie along with a visible watermark, indicating its pirated origin.
The post triggered widespread reactions online, with users expressing concern over the rapid circulation of illegal copies across borders. Many pointed out that restrictions on official releases often end up fuelling demand through unofficial channels.
Industry observers note that this is not an isolated case for the franchise. The earlier instalment had also seen extensive unauthorised distribution in Pakistan, reportedly attracting millions of illegal downloads within a short span of time. Its popularity later extended to digital platforms, where it performed strongly after release.
In India, authorities have taken legal steps to counter piracy. The Madras High Court recently issued an interim order restraining internet service providers and cable operators from streaming or broadcasting the film without authorisation. The directive will remain in effect until mid-April, aiming to limit further leaks.
The latest incident highlights the persistent challenge of piracy for the film industry, particularly in regions where official screenings are restricted, leading to parallel and often uncontrollable distribution networks.
