Diljit Dosanjh Nominated for Best Actor at International Emmys for ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’

Netflix biopic also earns nomination for Best TV Movie/Mini-Series, marking a global milestone for Punjabi cinema

Mumbai : Bollywood star Diljit Dosanjh has been nominated for Best Performance by an Actor at the 2025 International Emmy Awards for his role in the Netflix biopic Amar Singh Chamkila. The film, which also stars Parineeti Chopra, has received a second nomination in the Best TV Movie/Mini-Series category.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, Amar Singh Chamkila tells the story of the legendary Punjabi singer, often hailed as the “Elvis of Punjab,” whose life was tragically cut short in 1988 at the age of 27. The film, released on Netflix in April 2024, has been praised for its gripping portrayal of Chamkila’s meteoric rise and fearless artistry.

Diljit Dosanjh, who plays Chamkila, is shortlisted alongside international talents including David Mitchell (Ludwig), Oriol Pla (Yo, Adicto), and Diego Vasquez (One Hundred Years of Solitude). Sharing his excitement on social media, Dosanjh credited director Imtiaz Ali for the recognition, saying, “It’s all because of @imtiazaliofficial Sir.”

Parineeti Chopra, portraying Amarjot Kaur, Chamkila’s wife, expressed her joy on social media, writing, “WOOOHOOOO! Proud of my Team Chamkila!”

Since its release, Amar Singh Chamkila has garnered both commercial success and critical acclaim, resonating with audiences in India and internationally, and cementing Punjabi cinema’s presence on the global stage.
