SAMBA, JUNE 30: Under the aegis of J&K Legal Services Authority, and under the supervision and guidance of Sonia Gupta, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (Principal District & Sessions Judge), Samba, DLSA Samba organized a Webinar on the topic “Rights of Prisoners” under the project “Access to Justice” (Phase-2).
Arvind Sharma, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Samba (Chairman, Tehsil Legal Services Committee, Samba) was the resource person for the programme. He deliberated upon various rights to which a prisoner is entitled to within the limitations of prison. He highlighted various judgments of the Supreme Court in which various rights of prisoners have been laid down. He stated that prisoners are human beings and their rights can be curtailed but not completely taken away from them. Awareness of the ‘rights of prisoners’ are necessary to protect their basic human rights.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Slahuddin Ahmed, Sub Judge/Secretary, DLSA, Samba.
District Jail Jammu and District Jail Kathua also virtually joined the webinar. The programme was also attended by Additional S.P. Samba, and senior police officers of district Samba, Public Prosecutor Samba, Students of Legal Literacy Clubs, Dogra Law College, PLVs, Lawyers, Teachers, Prosecuting Officers and students of schools and colleges.
