Dodgers Triumph Over Blue Jays 4-1 as Yamamoto Shines, Ohtani Extends On-Base Streak

Yoshinobu Yamamoto delivers six strong innings, Shohei Ohtani reaches 42 game on base streak, and Los Angeles stretches winning run to five games.

TORONTO — Yoshinobu Yamamoto delivered a masterful outing, allowing just one run over six plus innings, while Shohei Ohtani extended his career best on base streak to 42 games as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1 on Tuesday night. The victory marks the Dodgers’ fifth consecutive win.

Ohtani set the tone early, drawing a four-pitch walk to lead off the game and later driving in a run with a single in the third inning. He also earned an intentional walk in the ninth, further extending his remarkable streak.

Alex Freeland contributed three hits, scored twice, and drove in a run, while Kyle Tucker added an RBI single in the ninth for insurance, despite striking out three times earlier in the game.

Toronto, coming off a 14-2 loss on Monday, dropped its losing streak to six games its longest skid in over a year.

Yamamoto, last season’s World Series MVP for the Dodgers, improved to 2-1, allowing just five hits, walking one, and striking out six. He exited after the sixth inning when Toronto loaded the bases with a double and infield single. Relievers Alex Vesia, Blake Treinen, and Edwin Díaz (who recorded his fourth save in as many opportunities) closed out the game.

Blue Jays starter Kevin Gausman (0-1) gave up three runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings, receiving minimal run support in his third start of the season.

The game saw a tense moment in the fifth inning when Toronto manager John Schneider was ejected following a balk call on Gausman. Dodgers shortstop Miguel Rojas was also scratched from the lineup due to a family matter, with Hyeseong Kim stepping in as his replacement.

The series concludes Wednesday with Ohtani (1-0, 0.00 ERA) scheduled to start for the Dodgers, while Toronto will counter with RHP Dylan Cease (0-0, 2.79).
