DOMA Confederation Pays Tribute to Former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh, Demanded Bharat Ratna for him

Jammu, December 29, 2024: The Dalit OBC Minority Adivasi (DOMA) Confederation held a solemn gathering at its headquarters to honor the legacy of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who recently passed away. The event served as a tribute to his remarkable contributions to India’s progress and governance, highlighting his visionary leadership and transformative impact on the nation.

During his ten-year tenure as Prime Minister, Dr. Singh led India through significant economic and social advancements. His achievements included:

    • Sustained Economic Growth: An impressive average GDP growth of 7.07% during the UPA regime.
    • Resilience During Financial Crises: Successfully protected India during the global financial crisis of 2007-08.
    • Special Economic Zones (SEZs): Promoted exports and economic development by establishing SEZs.
    • Landmark Legislation: Championed critical reforms, including:
      • The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (2005).
      • The Forest Rights Act (2006).
      • Right to Information and Lokpal/Lokayukta laws.
      • The National Food Security Act (2013).
      • The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition Act (2013).
      • Mandatory 2% Corporate Social Responsibility under the Companies Act (2013).
      • The Indo-US civil nuclear deal.
      • The Right to Education Act (2009).
      • The ASHA worker scheme for improving rural public healthcare.

In memory of his extraordinary legacy, DOMA leaders adopted two key resolutions:

    1. Memorial for Dr. Singh: A proposal to establish a dedicated memorial to honor Dr. Singh, in line with those of other former Prime Ministers.
    2. Recommendation for Bharat Ratna: A formal appeal to confer the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, upon Dr. Singh for his unparalleled contributions to the nation.

R.K. Kalsotra, State President of DOMA, praised Dr. Singh’s humility, intellect, and vision, noting his pivotal role in shaping India’s economic policies and guiding the country through global challenges.

S. Narinder Singh Khalsa described Dr. Singh as a distinguished son of India and the first Sikh Prime Minister, whose expertise and advice were sought internationally during financial crises.

Other dignitaries, including Dr. Ramesh Kaith, Kuldeep Singh, Harasis Singh Kranti, Surinder Singh, Inderjeet, and Harmanan Singh, also paid heartfelt tributes, emphasizing his lasting impact on governance, social welfare, and economic reform.

The event concluded with a collective commitment to preserving and promoting Dr. Manmohan Singh’s legacy as an inspiration for future generations.
