Donald Trump Hints at Possible Visit to India Next Year

Former US President says trade discussions with India are progressing well and hints at attending the upcoming Quad Summit in New Delhi.

NEW YORK/WASHINGTON, Nov 7: Former US President Donald Trump has indicated that he may travel to India next year, stating that his discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi are “going good.”

“It’s great, going good. He (Prime Minister Modi) largely stopped buying oil from Russia,” Trump said at the Oval Office when asked about trade talks with India.

“He’s a friend of mine, and we speak… He wants me to go there. We’ll figure that out. I’ll go. I had a great trip there with Prime Minister Modi, he’s a great man. And I’ll be going,” Trump added.

When directly asked about plans to visit India in 2025, Trump said, “It could be, yeah.”

India is set to host leaders from Australia, Japan, and the United States for the Quad Summit in New Delhi, following last year’s meeting in Wilmington, Delaware. The exact dates for the summit are yet to be announced.

Trump also reiterated his claim of using trade measures to prevent conflict between India and Pakistan in May. “Of the eight wars I ended, I would say five or six were ended because of tariffs… India and Pakistan started to fight; they are two nuclear nations… Eight planes were shot down. I said, ‘If you guys are going to fight, I’m gonna put tariffs on you.’ And within 24 hours, I settled the conflict,” he said.

The former president praised tariffs as a “great national defence,” highlighting their role in international diplomacy and trade.
