Dr. Pavan Malhotra, Director Principal, ASCOMS, conferred with Fellowship of Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) of Edinburgh, 2022.

20-08-2022 : Dr. Pavan Malhotra, Director Principal, ASCOMS, has been recently conferred with Fellowship of Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) of Edinburgh, 2022. In the official handout of Royal College of Physician (RCP) Edinburgh, Scotland Professor Mark W J Strachan, Secretary, stated that I am very pleased to inform you that you have been nominated for election to the Fellowship of the College.  It was agreed at a recently held RCP General Council meeting,after considering the recommendations of the high powered Credentials Committee of RCP, that after going through your achievements you should be elected as Fellow, subject to your agreement.Dr. Malhotra is the first Pharmacologist in India who was awarded British degrees both MRCP in 2014 and FRCP in 2019 by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and now again in recognition to his research work and his contributions to health scenario in Jammu he has been awarded FRCP by RCPE.

Dr.Malhotra did his MBBS and MD (Pharmacology) from Govt. Medical College, Jammu, started his career as Lecturer in the Department of Pharmacology at Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences & Hospital in 1998 and rose to become Prof & Head in 2008. He is a dedicated professional and exhibits high commitment towards the subject of Pharmacology. Hewas appointed as Director Principal of Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences & Hospital in the year 2016 till date. During his tenure as Director Principal, ASCOMS has achieved heights with starting of New PG courses in both clinical and non-clinical subjects, various superspeciality services of cancer in collaboration with American Oncology Institute (AOI) and Cardiac Sciences in collaboration with Artemis Heart Care, Gurugram were started for the benefit of general public. He was also instrumental in starting College of Nursing and College of Paramedical Sciences for imparting BSc degrees. He has 24 years of teaching experience including 13 years of administrative experience out of which more than 6 year is as Director Principal. He is also Fellow International Medical Sciences Academy and Member of various scientific organizations like American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET), American College of Clinical Pharmacology and National Academy of Medical Sciences, India.

He was conferred with award of appreciation by the then Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical Education, Govt. of Jammu & Kashmir and ICICI Bank Ltd. for heading team ASCOMS in providing best possible treatment during CoVID-19 pandemic in Jammu Region.

He was also the Coordinator of Pharmacovigilance Center of this Institute. He is President of Indian Society of Rational Pharmacotherapeutics, J&K. Also he is the Member of the Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD), an affiliate organization of IPPNW (International Physicians for Prevention of Nuclear War) and I-CAN, both Nobel peace prize winners in 1985 and other one in 2017. He was the Joint Secretary of Indian Pharmacological Society, J&K Branch from 1996 to 1999. He has attended and presented papers at various national and international conferences including one at Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, Scotland in August, 2018. He has been co-investigator in number of research projects sponsored by various national and international agencies. He also an author of a book titled “Manual of Practical Pharmacology”. The first edition was published in 2009-2010 and the third edition is in press and will be published in the month of December 2021.

He was also selected to represent the State of J&K for the National Training course on promoting rational use of drugs, which was jointly organized by WHO and International Network of Rational Use of Drugs (INRUD), USA in the year 1998. He is also the member of the Advisory Board and reviewer of International Journal of Applied Medical Research. He was also Associate Editor of Journal of Research in Medical Education and Ethics. He is also certified peer reviewer by Research Academy, Elsevier. He has 76 publications to his credit out of which 18 are in International Journals and 57 are in indexed National Journals of good impact factor.

Speaking to Correspondent, Dr. Malhotra gave credit of his achievements to his family, the research group, his friends and the Management of ASCOMS and Hospital especially Mr. D.K. Batra, SecretaryASCOMS, who had been a great support in all his endeavours for upliftment of the standards of Health and Medical Education in the private sector in Jammu region.
