09-06-2023 : The Directorate of Quality Assurance (DQA) at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) recently organized an engaging talk on the topic of “Teaching to Transformation.” The event aimed to provide faculty members with insights and strategies for fostering transformative learning experiences for students. Dr. Sanjay Kumar, the Chairperson of the Value Education Cell at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, was invited as a guest speaker to deliver a thought-provoking lecture.
During the session, Dr. Kumar emphasized the concept of teaching as a means of creating conditions that have the potential to bring about profound transformations in learners. He highlighted that effective teaching goes beyond the transmission of knowledge and skills; it also encompasses the development of the learner on various levels, including cognitive, emotional, social, intuitive, creative, and spiritual dimensions. By adopting a transformational approach to teaching, both students and teachers are encouraged to explore and realize their full potential.
Dr. Kumar further explained that transformational teaching involves inviting students and teachers to embark on a journey of self-discovery, where they can unleash their innate capabilities and expand their understanding of themselves, their roles in society, and their connection to the world. The ultimate goal of transformational teaching is to foster the growth of compassionate individuals who are capable of recognizing and appreciating the interconnectedness of all forms of life, including humans, plants, and animals.
The session concluded with expressions of gratitude from Dr. Balbir Singh, an Associate Professor, and Dr. A.K. Das, the Director of SMVDU. They extended their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kumar for sharing his valuable knowledge and insights with the participants. The organizers also extended a warm welcome to all attendees, acknowledging their active participation in the event.
