‘Drishyam 3’ Faces Casting Controversy, Akshaye Khanna Replaced by Jaideep Ahlawat

Actor steps in with a new character as legal dispute and wig disagreement overshadow Akshaye Khanna’s exit

Mumbai, Dec 28 : The much anticipated Drishyam 3 has stirred off-screen drama as actor Jaideep Ahlawat joins the lead cast, replacing Akshaye Khanna, who exited the film unexpectedly. Producer Kumar Mangat Pathak confirmed the casting update, surprising fans who expected Khanna to reprise a pivotal role.

Speaking to ANI, Pathak clarified that Ahlawat is not a direct replacement but is joining as a new character that fulfills a similar narrative purpose while bringing a fresh perspective to the story. “We have cast Jaideep Ahlawat. He will do what Akshaye was doing, but in a new form. We are presenting him in a very good way,” the producer said.

The change comes amid a brewing legal dispute. According to Pathak, Khanna had signed the film, accepted the signing amount, and committed to the dates but later walked out. The production team has sent a legal notice to the actor, and Pathak indicated that if no response is received within the stipulated time, the matter will be taken to court.

A key point in the controversy is the reason behind Khanna’s exit. The actor reportedly requested to wear a wig for the role, which conflicted with the film’s continuity. Drishyam 3 begins immediately where the previous installment ended, making it impossible for the character to appear with longer hair within the timeline. Pathak added that external influences reportedly swayed Khanna to reconsider wearing the wig, leading to confusion and delays.

The abrupt change caused financial losses for the production, including set construction at Yash Raj Studios and locked schedules. “We will demand compensation for the losses, including the set cost and other arrangements. We will also fight for our reputation,” Pathak stated.

Despite the controversy, fans can look forward to Ajay Devgn returning as Vijay Salgaonkar. Directed by Abhishek Pathak, Drishyam 3 is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on October 2, 2026, promising new twists that continue the story of the Salgaonkar family.
