DySP Sheikh Adil and ASP Budgam Gowhar Khan Placed Under Suspension

01-10-2023 : The Jammu and Kashmir government has taken decisive action by ordering the suspension of two senior police officers, DySP Sheikh Adil and ASP Budgam Gowhar Khan. This move follows recent developments, including the arrest of DySP Sheikh Adil in a corruption case in Srinagar, which has raised concerns regarding the conduct of these officers.

DySP Sheikh Adil’s suspension, as per the order issued by the J&K home department, is effective from September 21, 2023. His arrest on the same date was in connection with FIR No. 149/2023, which invoked sections 7, 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and sections 167, 193, 201, 210, 218, 221 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Police Station Nowgam. During the period of his suspension, DySP Adil Mushtaq shall be attached to the Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir.

Similarly, in a separate order, the J&K home department has suspended Additional Superintendent of Police Budgam, Gowhar Ahmad Khan, with immediate effect. This suspension comes as a result of pending inquiries into his conduct. During his suspension period, ASP Gowhar Ahmad Khan will also remain attached to the Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir.

The government’s action to suspend these two senior police officers underscores the commitment to maintaining transparency, accountability, and integrity within the police force. Such measures are essential to upholding the rule of law and ensuring public trust in the law enforcement agencies. The suspensions are indicative of the government’s dedication to addressing issues of misconduct and corruption within its ranks.
